Mogadishu Mayor Orders Vacation of Jenyo Stadium and Lands of General Interest

Mogadishu,14 June 2018 – Mayor of Muqdisho, who is also Banadir Region Governor, honourable Abdirahman Omar Osman (Eng. Yarisow) has today ordered vacation of Jenyo Stadium within 3 days after which the Stadium will be renovated and stored to what it used to be previously to allow the youth to use it as Sports site.

Banadir Region Governor has also ordered vacation of all general interest lands as soon as possible while the government is set to start a campaign in which it aims to revive city gardenswhile it intends to store them to what they sued to be in 80s. All garden structures such as Afisiyoni, 4ta gardens and Bondhere junction, among others, should all be demolished and made public gardens which all citizens can use equally, to allow them to contribute to the beautification activities of the City.

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed ( Farmajo ) had already ordered that Public lands should not be issued “ Therefore, we cannot tolerate individuals with personal interests to exploit public lands that come under the government. We are informing them to return this land honorably, to serve the general interest. Whoever defies these orders will have legal steps taken against him” The mayor said.

The Mayor has said that time of Accountability and Monitoring has arrived, therefore, No more Public Land that can be issued illegally. He also added that the government will pursue all government lands that had already been issued by the Ministry or the Local Government while all these involved in the matter will be held accountable for their actions and face the law.

“Somalia is now at the time of accountability. Since I intend to restore the beauty of the City to what it used to be previously, it is, therefore, our obligation to safeguard and protect public assets and we should not allow conceding a small inch of it”
